Viego's "subject" (Ying-wen Yu)

It is interesting to read how Viego applies psychoanalysis to interpret especially Latino Studies. In his argument, he suggests that people of color are forced to assimilate into the mainstream white society (112) in order to become “whole” subjects but they are barred from it (whole/white subjects).
Viego juxtaposes border-queer subject in Latino Studies and Lacanian barred and hysteric subjects together and suggests that the hysteric and the barred subjects destabilize and resist the master’s discourse/language. He especially focuses the use of language as his examples. I find the assumption quite intriguing because it reminds me of how Deleuze’s schizophrenic subject(s)/discourse(s) works to destabilize the wholeness. Viego’s idea on border subject is also interesting when the idea is compared to Deleuze’s concept on becoming. His discussion on how a subject exceeds language is complicated yet exciting. I think it would be helpful for me to utilize how Viego applies Lacanian psychoanalysis to read the border subject/ mestizaje/ crossedbloodness.
