We Meet Ourself

Welcome Tucson Meet Yourself, a festival more about us than for us.  Steeped in traditions of cultural heritage a diversity of groups come together that bring voice to the other and the recognized (Ritchie, Ventriloquist Folklore:  Who Speaks for Representation?, 1993).  An ethnomimesis more than an exhibit but a sharing of the self communicated through foods, customs, and arts (Cantwell, Ethnomimesis,: Folklife and the Representation of Culture, 1993). We learn about our views  of self through the boundaries we set which becomes evident through messages of stereotypes hidden through our responses both in speech and actions.  So our acceptance of others is evident not only through the foods we eat but our willingness to embrace others as we embrace ourselves.  Yes, we are here to understand who we are by representation through our diversified voices in the desert.
